Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is without any doubt the biggest success for Playstation 3 in 2008, probably even
bigger than Grand Theft Auto 4. I know Sony has anticipated a good market response for this game, but I'm sure it wasn't even hoping of making such a large impact on Europe (which is practically a nonexistent component when it comes to the console from Japan).
Konami announced it had shipped over a million units to retailers across Europe and it has confirmation from all European territories that sales are going great and that it holds the first place in the charts. There is a hidden subtext which can be seen right in the first sentence: "Konami had shipped…". Now, we have to imagine a million games collecting dust across Europe in all territories. I'm kidding, I'm sure it sells quite well.
In those "dusty" stacks of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, there are 25,000 limited edition sets (comprised of 'Making Of' Blu-Ray, soundtrack CD and 'Old Snake' mannequin). I have no idea why it has put Snake in there; it should have placed a couple of those hot girls that were posing for Snake in some trailers.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is supposed to be the last game developed with the involvement of Hideo Kojima, the brains behind everything including sliced bred, but if the sales are as good as it claims them to be, I'm sure will see Snake again, either in prequel (the way it's been rumored lately) or even in a full blown sequel. You don't kill a cow that gives you milk everyday, you don't change the winning team and whatever clichés you think of can be applied here. And when it comes to it, why is Metal Gear Solid 4 supposed to be the last?
