Hoping to attract players

Konami says it will release, sometime today, a free new update for Metal Gear Online set to introduce players to a new game mode, called Bomb Mission. The game has been constantly receiving more content since it's initial release and the new mission type will surely be interesting to current players, while some people not playing the multiplayer game might become interested once they read about Bomb Mission.

In the fresh mode, players will be required to form teams that will need to destroy or to protect a certain area of the game map. One of the teams gets the bombs and needs to infiltrate, plant and defend them until they go off, while the other team will have access to a solution that disables the bombs and is expected to keep the map free of them. This game type comes complete with a timer. All the above will sound very familiar to those who used to play Counter Strike, as there was a similar game mode called Defuse in the title that launched the multiplayer shooter craze.

Metal Gear Online was released as the multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, with Konami hoping that it would prove as popular in multiplayer as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game was initially well received by those playing on the PlayStation 3 and looking for some multiplayer action; thus, Konami is now trying to maintain interest in the title by offering new game modes and other fresh content.

All the players will get the update by logging into their accounts and waiting for the new content to be streamed to their consoles.

Konami must be thinking about how it will further exploit the Metal Gear franchise, given that MGS 4 took Solid Snake out of the picture. One of the most interesting routes the company might take is creating a MMO based on the series, and Metal Gear Online could be the first step in such an evolution.
