New category on the video service

Metacafe, the online video sharing service which has always stood in the shadow of YouTube, is now trying a new move to get closer to its rivals. Metacafe has just signed a deal with Digg, allowing the users to quickly digg a certain video published on the service. All you have to do is to press the 'digg it' button that automatically adds your vote to the Digg count. As you've probably heard, Digg is one of the most popular websites on the web because it gathers a considerable number of news items posted by the users. Well, this new Metacafe category works exactly like Digg, but it is entirely based on video content, and more likely on the clips uploaded by the users.

"Metacafe and Digg have joined forces to bring you the best videos as voted on by Digg users. See a video you like? Digg it and make your vote count! Like Metacafe, Digg is all about surfacing the best content based on the community's preference. You can share, discover, and discuss content that's important to you," it is mentioned on the official page of the Metacafe - Digg alliance.

"From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users. You won't find editors at Digg - we're here to provide a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we're changing the way people consume information online."

Metacafe is probably one of the powerful competitors which might compete with YouTube and target the same category of users. But YouTube always managed to remain the leader of the online video sharing service and, even if it was threatened by more famous technologies such as Sony's eyeVio, it always faced the competition. However, I have to admit that it's quite easy for YouTube to fight for the supremacy since Google is its parent company...
