A Microsoft Messenger user, are we? Well, the "enemy" has updated the free IM client for Mac to version 7.0.1 adding even more support for users of the VoiceOver feature of OS X. Users who've had trouble with the app while using it with some European languages are also advised to download and install this update straight away.

"Messenger for Mac 7.0.1 improves support for users of the VoiceOver feature in Mac OS X, and it fixes user interface issues that appear when Messenger is used with some European languages," Microsoft's Download Center page reveals. The company behind the Windows operating system also notes that Messenger for Mac 7.0.1 does not work with Live Communications Server 2005. As a result to this, if your organization uses Live Communications Server 2005, you should use Messenger for Mac Version 6.0. Messenger 7.0.1 for Mac requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.9 (Tiger) or later.

With the seventh big release of the IM client, Microsoft added an array of improvements as well as new features, including support for face-to-face meetings with co-workers in other cities or countries, for companies that use Office Communications Server 2007 and Messenger for Mac 7. The client offers two types of communication services: a personal account and a corporate account.

Messenger for Mac 7 also adds the ability to assign nicknames to your friends and support for OS X's Bonjour. Thanks to Mac OS X Bonjour instant networking technology, people will be able to see if you're on the local network. New "presence" enhancements in Messenger for Mac 7 include the ability to add a personal message to your contact information.

Messenger for Mac 7 offers increased support for Office Communications Server 2007, for corporate users, making it easy to search a corporate address book from within Messenger. This way, users are able to quickly find internal contacts and their presence information. Communications are also more secure now, with each corporate user having an account on the corporate network.
