Well-known for its custom firmware releases, Merlin has outed another updated compatible with some of ASUS’ wireless routers, namely version 3.0.0.4.376.48 Beta 1, which enables several Net-SNMP modules and brings other useful changes.

When it comes to compatibility, this new update can be applied regardless of the operating system powering your computer, and only on ASUS’ RT-AC87, RT-AC56, RT-AC66, RT-AC68, RT-N16, and RT-N66 wireless routers (all models).

As for the other changes, the present beta build merges with ASUS RT-AC87 376.2769 General Public License (GPL), fixes some security issues by updating OpenSSL to version 1.0.0o, and adds postconf and custom config support for snmpd.conf.

In addition to that, while saintdev’s patch resolves with MAC filtering that encountered problems with Guest networks, ryzhov_al re-adds the USB HID kernel module required by UPS monitoring in order to avoid any issues.

More than that, URL and keyword filtering don’t encounter errors when CTF is enabled anymore, DNS queries are now forwarded properly, and DNSFilter dropdown will always display the correct client list.

Moreover, NAT loopback has been reverted to ASUS’ code, and SSLv2 and SSLv3 support for router access has been disabled. Also, Samba server has been upgraded to 3.6.24 in order to improve reliability and security, even though it might cause a slight performance drop.

Last but not least, if we were to talk about the RT-AC56, RT-AC68, and RT-AC87 wireless device alone, these routers receive HID support to ARM kernel.

That being said, download AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.48 Beta 1 for the appropriate router model, apply it on your unit, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
