Usually, in order to enable anything from direct-to-PC photos to online videoconferencing, people have to purchase a webcam, then use some plastic setting to mount it on top of their display, configure it and rearrange it time and time again whenever they reposition it or slightly move their display.
Acer has always developed new ways of combining the most popular items. This time around, the invention is a 24-inch H243HXB display. Intended for the high-end market segment, the display has a TN panel capable of resolutions as detailed as 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and the maximum dynamic contrast ratio attainable is of 80,000:1 DCR. The maximum brightness available to this model is of 300cd/m2. The response time of the monitor is a minuscule 2ms.
Not unlike other monitor models, the H243HXB has built-in 1W speakers, two to be exact. Buyers needn't concern themselves anymore with what speakers they should buy that would go well with the monitor. With built-in audio, the desk space is freed up for better comfort and aesthetics.
Very appealing to buyers will probably be the featured integrated webcam. Acer decided to bring man and machine closer by letting the PC watch the user employing it. Now, the monitor has its own eyes with which to observe the owner taking advantage of all of its other features, such as the D-sub connector and the Digital video interface (DVI) and HDMI (high-definition media interface) outputs.
The only downside to this see-you-see-me webcam-monitor combination is the fact that the set-up of the camera's view will be dependent on the monitor's actual position. Indeed, the camera is in the center of the upper edge of the screen and there does not seem to be a way to manage its viewpoint without moving the monitor itself. Nevertheless, considering the size of the screen, one may assume that such position adjustments won't be required very often.
The price of the Acer H243HXB monitor is 299 Euro.
