Indie developer Tribute Games has announced that its action platformer Mercenary Kings is coming to the PlayStation 4 on April 1.

The action-packed adventure will have players choose between King and Empress, two members of an elite squad that goes by the name Mercenary Kings.

Players will be dropped on Mandragora Island and will have only one mission, rescuing Doctor James Neil from the forces of the evil CLAW, short for Cyber Loyalist Active Weapons, in order to prevent them from conquering the world by employing the brilliant doctor's Mandrake Formula.

Gamers can either play the role of a lone wolf or team up and take down CLAW together, supporting up to four people in cooperative multiplayer, either sharing the same couch or over the internet.

The side-scrolling action of Mercenary Kings is deceptively deep, as players can gather various materials during their missions and take them back to the support crew waiting at Camp Crown, the base of operations.

The recovered materials can be forged into powerful cannons or sharp blades for the heroes to make use of during their encounters with CLAW. Also, with over 300 gun parts and more than 100 knives, players have a wide array of options when it comes to their weapon of choice, being able to elect from machine guns with mega ammo, quick reloading pistols, lethal blades with deadly range and many others.

Players will then proceed and take down the island wide top secret laboratory base that the fearsome forces of CLAW have set up, proving that they have what it takes to face any challenge.

Mercenary Kings has also been available on Steam Early Access since last summer.
