An ASRock Z87M OC Formula motherboard was used to achieve it

It's one thing to play a bit with clock speeds, and another to come together as a team and push things so much further than manufacturers intended that smoke comes out of your PC rig.

Smoke is only borderline metaphorically used too. All that liquid nitrogen used in extreme overclocking sessions sometimes turns into enough vapor to block out even close lights.

An overclocking session led by well-known expert Nick Shih has set a new record for DDR3 performance.

On a system made of an ASRock Z87M OC Formula micro-ATX motherboard and Team Group Xtreem-LV-2666 memory, the RAM reached 4285.6MHz.

HKEPC's John Lam and Splave were the other two overclockers. See the validation of their achievement here.

The record was set at Computex 2013, which took place in Taipei, Taiwan, last week.
