Comedienne Joan Rivers died one week after she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest during an unplanned biopsy at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic, where she had scheduled an appointment after complaining of problems to her vocal chords.

Despite the initial denial, her daughter Melissa is still determined to sue the clinic and the specialist performing the procedure on her mother, the Daily Mail has learned. The specialist, Dr. Gwen Korovin, wasn’t even authorized to practice at the clinic.

Rivers’ death was caused by irresponsibility, her daughter believes

On August 28, Joan Rivers had an appointment for an endoscopy at the NYC clinic, but she had not agreed to a biopsy, the report notes. Moreover, Dr. Korovin, who was her ears, nose, and throat specialist, was in the room whilst she was put under anesthesia for this procedure that she did not agree to, despite the fact that she had no right to be there.

Officially, the clinic has denied that a biopsy was performed on Rivers, but in the wake of her death, the clinic’s medical director stepped down from his position, while an investigation was launched.

According to sources speaking to the publication, Melissa believes this is reason enough to take the clinic to court, because it put her mother in a risky situation and thus caused the health complications that eventually led to her death.

In other words, had staff at the clinic and Dr. Korovin been more responsible, Joan would still be alive, which is the closest thing to saying that they killed her, without actually saying so.

“Melissa does plan to sue the clinic. She is going to launch a lawsuit,” a tipster confirms for the Daily Mail.

Melissa Rivers is yet to make her stance on this publicly known

Joan and Melissa Rivers were very close: they were more than just mother and daughter; they were also roommantes and business partners, and had starred together on a reality show. When Joan died, Melissa was said to have been left completely heartbroken because she’d lost her best friend and life companion.

This would explain why she’s yet to say anything on the most recent rounds of rumors about her alleged plans to sue the clinic, but there’s also the chance that she’s really not interested in pursuing legal action against it.

When word of this first got out in the media, when Joan was still alive, hooked up to life support and in a medically induced coma, a rep for the family issued a denial, saying a lawsuit was not among her priorities at the time. No word if she’s had a change of heart in the meantime, but many are convinced she’d win if she decided to take this step.
