The latest X Factor UK show brought another amazing surprise: her name is Melanie Masson, she is 44 years old and a mother of two, and is a part-time fairy. Or so she would have us believe.

Above is Masson’s audition on the singing competition, during which she managed to charm her way into the hearts of the four judges and the audience alike.

She sang Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby,” a hit that is as brilliant as it’s difficult to do justice to. Melanie did that, but it’s only because she failed to reveal the fact that she can boast of a professional singing career.

Melanie has been working in showbiz for the past 15 years, with her credits including collaborations with “huge names including Kasabian, Stereophonics, Fatboy Slim and Happy Mondays. She also released a single in 2007 and was signed industry heavyweight EMI,” the Daily Mail reports.

Apparently, she forgot to mention that to X Factor producers. In her defense, Melanie says she hasn’t worked in music for 6 years, which is why she didn’t disclose this bit about herself.
