Hollywood star Melanie Griffith has often prompted speculation about undergoing major surgical procedures for cosmetic reasons because of her ever-changing looks. With this in mind, it’s no wonder the US media thought this was also the case when she was spotted with a black eye the other day. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, Extra TV reports.

Griffith, who has just recently completed rehab, has been diagnosed with skin cancer and has already undergone an intervention to remove cancerous cells from her face, her publicist is telling the media. It’s said intervention that explains the black eye, he adds, and not a visit for a nip and tuck at the cosmetic surgeon, as many have speculated.

“Melanie Griffith is recuperating after undergoing surgery to remove cancerous cells from her face. Griffith, 52, had the procedure done early enough ‘to prevent further complications,’ her spokeswoman Robin Baum tells the Associated Press. She was left with a black eye after the surgery,” Extra TV writes. At the time, more details are not available, but given her rep is saying that she had the procedure in due time, all should be well, it is being said.

As also noted above, earlier this year, Melanie checked herself into rehab, presumably at the exclusive Cirque Lodge in Utah, where Lindsay Lohan, among many other stars, also stayed at one point as she was battling an unnamed addiction. In Griffith’s case, though, it was not about an addiction, her spokesperson said at the time. She had had alcohol and drug issues for years, and she was in rehab again because it was part of a routine she had to keep her on track, her rep explained.

“She is there to reinforce her commitment to stay healthy. This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago,” the star’s rep said at the time.
