Melanie admits to having seen the famous Room of Pain from the set of the film

In February 2015, perhaps one of the most anticipated book adaptations is coming to the big screen, with the release of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” based on the first novel of the same name from E.L. James’ trilogy of adult books. At least two famous people won’t be seeing it.

They also happen to be the leading lady’s parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. Dakota Johnson, who has done mostly modeling work so far, is about to be catapulted into the stratosphere with the role of Anastasia Steele in the Universal Pictures productions, but she knows she doesn’t want her parents in the cinema when it comes out.

If you read James’ books or have been keeping an eye on the topic, you know why: the story initially started as “Twilight” fanfiction with an adult angle. It focuses on Anastasia, who is a virgin, who meets handsome and mysterious (and very rich) Christian Grey and falls for him head over heels.

So, when he proposes that she become his submissive, she doesn’t even think twice, even though she has no idea if S&M is something you spread on bread with peanut butter or something else entirely. She’s about to learn the difference soon, though.

Producers of the film have repeatedly said that it won’t be an exact replica of the book, which does get quite explicit at times. Instead, the film will focus on the love story and how these two unlikely lovers find a common ground to connect. Hint, it involves a certain Room of Pain, or Red Room.

Melanie Griffith has seen it, she admits in a new interview cited by Yahoo! Celebrity. However, what she hasn’t seen yet (and never will) is the full cut of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

“I have not seen Fifty Shades of Grey. I don't think I'm going to see it… [Dakota] was like, ‘You guys cannot come. There's no way.’ So we're not going. I did go visit for a couple of days when they were shooting just normal stuff. I did see the Room of Pain – I did go in there and check it out,” the actress admits.

Even if she will never see her daughter’s biggest role to date, one that will probably turn her into one of the highest paid young actresses in Hollywood, Melanie, like any other mom, is very proud of her accomplishments.

“She's amazing – so good. It's just so beautiful to see her doing this. She had her mom and her dad and her grandmother and she's just taken us all and thrown us away. She's like, ‘Here I am’,” Melanie continues.

Indeed, Dakota is taking a huge risk by accepting to do this role, especially when most readers of the book are still not convinced that she can cut it. We got a first taste of Dakota’s performance and Mr. Grey and, yes, the Red Room with the trailer that was released last month.

Here it is, enjoy.
