14 DAY TRIAL // This will be one of the most expensive divorces in the history of showbiz, Mel Gibson having an estate estimated at over $900 million a couple of years ago. However, the amount that Robyn, Mel’s wife for almost three decades, will get with the settlement will never be revealed to the media, since the couple has agreed to keep mum on all financial aspects regarding the divorce, TMZ informs.
“We’ve learned both Mel and Robyn filed a joint request – essentially asking the judge in their divorce case to keep info about their finances private. The judge saw it their way and signed the order on Friday. According to the order, neither party (and that includes their lawyers) is allowed to disclose any information revealed in the discovery process. That means all of the financial documents that have been requested to establish the value of the Gibsons’ estate can’t be released directly or indirectly to the media.” the aforementioned e-zine says.
When Robyn filed for divorce in mid-April, speculation had it that she stood to walk with an impressive $450 million in the divorce settlement, since she and Mel had not signed a prenuptial contract before the wedding, which entitled her to half of everything he made while married to her. Later on, reports emerged that Robyn wanted a quickie divorce, with the judge finalizing it in a few weeks and the financial decisions to be made afterwards. This way, it was said, she would avoid the embarrassment of seeing Mel still married to her and doing public appearances with Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his yet unborn child.
While on the topic, we might as well mention that, following intense speculation, Mel eventually confirmed reports that he was about to become a father for the eighth time. At the same time, in the same interview on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the famed actor and producer also stressed that he had done no wrong by his wife since, when he met Oksana, he had already been living separated from his wife for over two years.
“This is true. We’re gonna have a child.” Gibson told Leno of Oksana’s pregnancy. “My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we’ve been separated ever since then. These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman – we still got kids together. We’re friends. […] Look. When it’s all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I’m to blame.
