Mel Gibson and estranged wife Robyn have finally reached a divorce settlement. Though concrete details have not been released to the press, it is believed she walked away from the marriage with $450 million in estate and investments.
The two have seven children together and had been married for 29 years when Robyn filed for divorce in April 2009. At the time, Mel said his marriage had actually ended 3 years before.
The LA Times is now reporting that the two have reached an understanding in the divorce case and that said understanding could actually mean that Robyn is getting half of Gibson’s estate.
Seeing how it’s estimated at $900 million, this means that Robyn probably got $450 million, though most of that money is probably tied up in estate.
“Attorneys told an LA judge Tuesday that Robyn and Mel had finally worked out a settlement regarding division of property and other assets valued at $900 million before the real estate crash, though no details were released. The divorce is expected to be finalized in August,” the publication reports.
“After 28 years of marriage, Robyn filed for divorce in April 2009, right about the time news broke that Grigorieva was pregnant with Mel’s baby (Lucia was born that November),” the LA Times notes.
“Mel said at the time that his marriage had effectively ended three years earlier,” says the same publication.
Because when they were married his star was just rising and prenuptial contracts were not as hip and popular as they are today, Mel and Robyn never had one drawn up.
The many years they spent married and the children they had together only made matters more complicated when it came to the division of property, as we also reported in several previous articles on the topic.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are in a similar situation right now, though Maria is yet to file for divorce.
They are separated though and, should Maria file the papers, she could walk away from the marriage with $200 million, half of Arnold’s estate.
