14 DAY TRIAL // Dating Mel Gibson, one of the richest and most appreciated actors and directors in Hollywood, does come with certain perks, even if they’re not seen as the main reason for the romance. Oksana Grigorieva, a singer no one seemed to know until a few months ago, is currently promoted by boyfriend Mel Gibson, who has also directed the video for her second single, “Beautiful Heartache.”
Mel and Oksana reportedly started dating after he signed her with his label, Icon Records, which is also handling the release and promotion of her debut album, also called “Beautiful Heartache.” Less than a month ago, the singer released her first video ever, for “Say My Name,” but, when it failed to get the anticipated reaction, she convinced Gibson to direct her second, so as to really get her name out there, several music-oriented publications are saying.
“Beautiful Heartache” was shot in Mexico during a seven-day stay and, in all fairness, features very beautiful images of Oksana and even more beautiful imagery (like the tango scene, and the one in which she plays the piano as it’s catching fire and bursting into flames). However, the video can hardly make up for the rather boring and repetitive song, as well as work in terms of hiding the fact that, at the end of the day, while endowed with a decent voice, Oksana is far from a brilliant singer, as critics put it.
Since the video hit the Internet, the reaction to it has been exclusively and unequivocally one: Oksana looks great in front of the camera, but lacks the vocal abilities to make a career in music work. Moreover, the consensus seems to be that the Gibson-Grigorieva pairing on a professional level is also equally ill-advised, since chances are nothing extraordinary will come of it. Still, with “Beautiful Heartache,” Mel Gibson shows that he is a brilliant and visionary director, even if not the most inspired when it comes to not mixing business with pleasure, it is further being said.
As it’s already common knowledge, Oksana is currently pregnant with Mel’s eighth child. Initially, it was believed she had been the reason why the actor’s wife of many years, Robyn, decided to file for divorce but it was later revealed that they had actually been separated for about three years when they two met and fell in love.
