Following intense speculation that famous actor and director Mel Gibson was already moving on with his life even before the divorce from his longtime wife was finalized, the star himself comes clean about new love interest Oksana Grigorieva being pregnant, People magazine reports. A publicist for Gibson has also confirmed the news for the same media outlet.

Gibson was a guest on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno and, as expected, the topic of the pregnancy could not but pop up. Strangely enough, especially for a man who cares about his privacy as much as Mel does, the actor immediately confirmed that, indeed, the tabloids were right when they started running stories about his girlfriend being pregnant in three months, People magazine says.

“This is true. We’re gonna have a child.” Mel told Leno when asked about whether there was any truth to the many rumors in the tabs. Moreover, when Leno said, “So that will make 29?” the star joked that the fans might even start calling him by a more suitable nickname. “Well, actually eight. I guess I’m Octo-Mel.” Gibson said, speaking in direct reference to the by-now infamous Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to ocuplets at the beginning of this year and came to be known solely as OctoMom.

In the same interview with Leno, Mel also spoke about his failed marriage to Robyn, who filed for divorce a couple of months ago, presumably because she could no longer stand the actor’s drunken ways and erratic behavior. Despite stories claiming that the two are no longer seeing eye to eye, Mel says this couldn’t be farther from the truth: they simply fell out of love, but are still on friendly terms since they have a beautiful family together and they need to keep up a united front for the sake of the children, even if they’re not small anymore. Furthermore, whatever went wrong in their marriage was most likely his fault, so the media should not try to blame Robyn in any way, Gibson also says.

“My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we’ve been separated ever since then. These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman – we still got kids together. We’re friends. […] Look. When it’s all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I’m to blame. If you’re inclined to judge, put it here.” Mel Gibson told Jay Leno the other night.

Ever since the divorce was made public, Robyn made absolutely no comment on the matter, and she’s not to break her silence now that the Oksana pregnancy is official. For those who aren’t in the know, Mel’s soon to be former wife stands to walk away with half of his $900+ million fortune since they did not sign a prenup when they got married almost 30 years ago.
