The former Spice Girl seems to have finally opened her eyes and got over being swooningly loved up with her new husband Stephen Belafonte, which she married in secret over the summer in Las Vegas. Mel B, who according to her friends' statements has not signed a pre-nuptial agreement with her husband, has reportedly decided to order him to give up his rights to their £2.5 million marital home.

The Spice Girls star bought the Hollywood Hills mansion after signing a £10 million deal to reunite with her former Spice Girls band mates for a world tour - and a few months after her surprise marriage has forced husband Stephen Belafonte to declare she is the sole owner of the property. "Mel learned a lot from her divorce from Jimmy Gulzar. The marriage lasted less than a year and he got £700,000. She is smart enough to know she has to protect herself and her children", said a source close to the singer.

The way I see it, there are two possible explanations for this. First possibility: Mel is a lot smarter than we imagined and realized she made a mistake in taking no precautions before marrying in secret a guy who was accused of hitting his baby's mother and cheating on his first wife. Possibility number two is that Mel's bubble has burst and she began to see Belafonte in a different light than she did before, which means the story is far from over and there is some more interesting news on the way.

Mel B (on her true name Melanie Brown) has two children, an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with ex-husband Jimmy, and a six-month-old daughter, Angel Iris, with ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy. She married Belafonte in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony in June following what was described as "a whirlwind romance"

Belafonte is said not to have raised any objections to the deal. "Stephen was happy to sign the form giving up rights to the property. He is not after Mel's cash", claims a friend of the producer's. The couple moved into the luxurious 3,500sq ft house in California in August. Mel's decision might also have been prompted by the fact that under Californian law, a spouse is entitled to up to 50 per cent of earnings and property unless they agree to sign a "quit claim deed" form - which is just what Mel made Belafonte do. All I can say is, heads up, people, I sense there's more Mel's not telling. We'll keep you posted.
