A new rumor regarding the impending launch of a Meizu powered by Ubuntu Touch has started to circulate online and it looks like some new images have been leaked from Weibo, a microblogging platform very popular in China.

Rumors about Meizu launching all kinds of Ubuntu Touch-powered phones have started to become much more common place, now that we are getting closer to the actual event, although the date hasn't been revealed just yet. It's getting harder to distinguish between rumors and facts, especially since some of the rumors are actually in the realm of possibility.

Canonical chose two companies to help them release Ubuntu Touch, and those are Meizu and Bq. That phones from these companies will be using the Ubuntu system is not a possibility, it's a fact. For example, Bq Aquaris e4.5 phone with the OS from Canonical should land in February, but there is no official word from Meizu on what phones will be available.

Meizu m1 Mini is a good candidate

Details about a phone called Meizu m1 mini have surfaced for a couple of days already, and we happen to know quite a few things about them. For example, they feature 5-inch screens (and not 4.7 as originally reported), a 13MP camera, and it will be available with a selection of free operating systems, Flyme, YunOS, and Ubuntu.

With a 5-inch screen, it's difficult to understand why it's called mini, but it might have something to do with the price. According to meizunews.com, Meizu m1 Mini should cost 799 Yuan, which is actually $128 (€115).

In the meantime, Canonical is hard at work and it's pushing one Ubuntu Touch RTM after another. Each new edition improves tremendously upon the previous one and they are almost ready to be shipped. It remains to be seen what phones from Meizu will actually adopt it first and which suppositions actually turn out to be facts.
