Meizu is expected to refresh its premium lineup soon

One of the most interesting smartphone makers to come out of China as of late is Meizu. The company has already introduced a few handset models on the market, and they have been getting pretty good reviews so far.

This year, Meizu is expected to refresh its high-end portfolio of Android devices. According to the latest information, it appears that Meizu has two premium handsets in the pipeline, one of which is the sequel to the M1 Note and will be called the M1 Note 2.

The other product is the MX5, which has leaked into the wild several times prior to this occasion. Until now, only some tidbits of information about the phone have been revealed, but today a few renders showing the device have surfaced, giving you the opportunity to see what’s coming your way (as seen at Mobile Dad).

Apparently, there’s an increasing trend with Chinese smartphone makers this year to produce bezeless handsets, and Meizu seems to have taken note of that.

Could this be the Meizu MX5?

As is pretty obvious from the images, the MX5 will sport an edge-to-edge display too, giving a lot of room for tapping.

The phone will most likely be made of metal and will certainly offer advanced specifications. The MX5 allegedly leaked in the past in a live image showing a circular capacitive home button with a fingerprint scanner embedded within.

This time, the renders show a capacitive dot below the display. So, it’s possible that the device we’ve been talking about above is actually the MX5 Pro, not the MX5. After all, the MX4 also sported a capacitive dot home button.

As for specs, word on the street would have us believe that the MX5 will arrive with a 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and 5:3 aspect ratio). Given the renders we see today, Meizu will probably implement the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

The juicebox of the flagship is said to be an octa-core MediaTek MT6797 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The phone has been said to feature a unibody design, which means we’ll not see a microSD card slot on board.

The rumor mill also claims the phone will take advantage of a colossal 41MP camera with Nokia PureView sensor embedded. That would be pretty wild, right?
