There is no official explanation of why it happened

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu phone has disappeared from the official store, and there is no information as of yet why that has happened.

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu is the first phone with the operating system from Canonical. It's also the first high-end device to ship with this OS, so naturally there was a lot of interest in the community. A lot of people managed to buy it, and some users even got the shipments. The problem is that it's no longer available in the store.

Canonical announced two official partners for their Ubuntu Touch system, Bq and Meizu. The Spanish company Bq already has an Ubuntu phone in the wild, the Aquaris e4.5 Ubuntu edition, and they are going to launch a new one soon. Meizu, on the other hand, only had the Meizu MX4 available and that is no longer available.

Meizu should also launch in Europe

The announcement regarding Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition only covered China, but Canonical said that a European launch is also planned, which makes the disappearance of the phone from the store all the more interesting.

There are a few reasons why this could be happening. The most positive scenario is that all the phones Meizu has prepared with Ubuntu have been sold out, but given the size of the company, that is highly unlikely.

The second reason would be a technical one. Maybe the guys who are testing Ubuntu on Meizu MX4 found a problem and they decided to pull them back from the store until that problem is fixed.

The third reason is that they are also preparing the European launch, but that is also very unlikely.

We have reached Meizu for clarification, and we hope to get some answers soon. A lot of people want this phone, and it would be nice to have an explanation of why they can't buy one.

You can check the official website for more info on Meizu MX4

Update: Here is what Meizu had to say about the fact that MX4 Ubuntu is no longer available.

"Right now we are still adapting the system to the phone to make sure the users can have the best experience. I will definitely share with you more information when it is done. Thank you for your patience. "
