“Transformers” star Megan Fox has quite a reputation for making the most awkward and occasionally inappropriate comments. Not that this has affected the popularity she enjoys with the fans in any way, for that matter. On the contrary, because she’s used to always speaking her mind – or, as some put it, speaking first and thinking later –, she’s come to be seen as a role model, and this is precisely what she wants, Fox herself reveals in a new interview with The Telegraph.

In the past, Megan said she did not want to be classified and categorized like most other female stars of the moment were. All she wanted to do was to live her life and do her thing without people judging her or, even worse, holding her responsible for other people’s actions by saying she was a role model. Coming to show that it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, as the saying goes, Fox now claims her “mission” is to empower girls and women.

Clearly, there’s no denying that Fox is a gorgeous woman, even if her acting abilities are often questioned by the harshest movie critics. As such, she’s getting lots of media time for her looks alone, from magazines naming her the most beautiful woman in showbiz at the moment, to major publications asking her to take part in photoshoots. She’s not famous because she’s smart and people don’t approach her because they perceive her as intelligent, Fox says in the latest interview.

Unfortunately, this is not only her problem, as women all across the US are still seen as “either or,” meaning either beautiful or intelligent, wherefrom the self-imposed task of showing them one can have it all. “Sometimes I say things that I think are obviously sarcastic and people take them quite literally. In America we’re still very uptight. […] For some reason it makes people very uncomfortable, possibly because our society is still very tied to archaic biblical principles that we try to force on each other and force on our children.” Fox says.

Double standards continue to apply in the US, which means men can have both and be appreciated, whereas women must choose the one or the other. “It’s very unfortunate because […] I think that’s a power, a gift that we were given by God or the universe or whatever. I think I’m a different kind of role model for young girls. But maybe not the kind America is comfortable with.” the actress says. She then goes on to add that her purpose is to make it OK for girls and women to be hot, without running the risk of having the world perceive them as “dumb as a rock,” as it happened to her.
