About a year ago, at Comic Con, fans got to see the first teaser poster for “Jonah Hex,” the big screen adaptation of the comic book on which Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich had been working quietly for many months. The other day brought the first official poster; today, thanks to Yahoo! Movies and MTV, fans have the first official trailer.

However, this is not a trailer in the classic sense of the word, comic book fans all over the net point out, but rather a “motion comic” like “Watchmen” also had before release. It’s meant to introduce non-fans to the story, while also getting the fans familiar with it more hyped up. The “Jonah Hex” bit is successful on both counts, as it presents Jonah’s origins (including how he got the dreadful mark on his face), his reason for wanting revenge, while also getting fans hyped by the promise of plenty of action and lots of explosions.

“Directed by Jimmy Hayward, the film stars Josh Brolin as the scarred bounty hunter, and Megan Fox as the [woman] who helps him on his mission to bring down the evil plantation owner Quentin Turnbull (played by John Malkovich). Yahoo Movies has the new trailer, which seems to indicate some mystical abilities for Hex, an indication of how he’ll receive his trademark scar, and a scene featuring Jonah Hex riding a horse that’s been fitted with gatling guns. Need we say more?” MTV writes of the trailer.

Indeed, it would seem that there is nothing more to say about it – except maybe that “Jonah Hex” appears to have all the ingredients to become a smashing hit once it arrives in theaters this summer. This includes clichés like “This is the future. The future is bright” (which can sound pretty awesome in action movies if played right), explosions and humanly impossible physical feats. The trailer also shows some fierce acting on Megan Fox’s behalf (in the sense that she seems to have taken her bad girl role pretty seriously) and hints at the inclusion of some love scenes with her in the final product.

Add Brolin and Malkovich (who always makes for such an incredible villain) to the equation, and what we get is the clear promise of a box office hit. “Jonah Hex” arrives in theaters on June 18. Until then, below is the first official trailer: enjoy and make sure you keep an eye on this space for updates.
