Stars do PSA to protest against California budget cuts

Funny Or Die is usually a platform where stars of varying caliber try their hand at skits and bits of parody. This time though, Funny Or Die has teamed up with actors Megan Fox, Brian Austin Green and Geoff Stults to protest against the projected budget cuts in California that could throw the public education system in disarray. The script for the PSA was written by concerned parents, the Los Angeles Times informs.

The video sees Brian Austin Green as a concerned parent (what he actually is) and on-and-off girlfriend Megan Fox getting to learn of the crisis first-hand by pure accident. She’s waiting for Brian to come out from a teachers-parents meeting and, because she’s trying to avoid two weirdoes looking for autographs, she listens to his suggestion to hide out in the library. Instead of the library, she goes into a classroom, which is being reorganized severely because of the school staff that has been let go.

“The parents at Wonderland Avenue School in the Hollywood Hills are upset about budget cuts – so upset that they asked one of their own, actor-parent Brian Austin Green, to star in a video to draw attention to their cause. Green enlisted his off-again, on-again girlfriend Megan Fox as a costar. Parents wrote the script, which entertainment PR-parent John Koch explained to L.A. Now is ‘meant to be funny,’ and produced the spot with help from Funny Or Die. ‘The video is an exaggeration,’ Koch said. ‘It’s meant to be funny, but the question is, when is enough enough? How far are these cuts going to go? It’s a tough situation for a lot of people.’ This isn’t the first effort by Wonderland parents to focus a spotlight on their budget fears...” the aforementioned publication says.

The video takes on a more serious note towards the end, when Brian and Megan cut the funny stuff out and get down to business, presenting numbers that should worry any parent in California. With all that, skeptics believe the PSA also doubles as a very subtle PR move meant to promote DVD releases from the two actors, as ScreenCrave puts it. The only one who might not have had any interest in this than doing some good seems to be Stults, who painfully tries to point out throughout the entire video how Gov. Schwarzenegger had it much harder when growing up.

“This has to be one of the weirdest Funny Or Die videos to date because it wasn’t particularly funny and the casting of Geoff Stults as Governor Schwarzenegger’s henchman seems off. There are several references to Fox’s claim to fame in Transformers and the DVD literally pops up 3 times on screen (I smell subliminal marketing). Also Brian Austin Green aka BAG engages in a conversation about The Terminator, while the score from the film plays in the background, which is convenient since he starred in the short-lived series ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ (also on DVD),” the movie-oriented e-zine says. Below is the video: see it for yourselves and judge whether the above is accurate.
