Mega Man Star Force is an action RPG video game published and developed by Capcom for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console. It was released on December 14, 2006, in Japan, and hit the store shelves of North America on August 07. The game was made available in three separate versions, namely Dragon, Pegasus, and Leo, all of which shared the same gameplay, but which featured small differences consisting of launch events. The Dragon version, for example, was exclusive to the GameStop network of stores in the USA.

Although Mega Man Star Force has many similarities in gameplay, visuals, and mechanics with the Mega Man Battle Network franchise, it is still considered a separate game by its developer and publisher Capcom. As a special treat for all those Mega Man fans in Japan, a special anime and manga series was produced before the launch of the game in this country, in order to build up hype for the future game.

Despite the fact that the title is placed in the network technology timeline of the Mega Man franchise, it sets itself apart from the Battle Network series, as it shows that its action takes place 200 years after the events in the previous Battle Network games.

Because the storyline unfolds itself in the network timeline, it uses a lot of gameplay elements from the Battle Network games, but doesn't make any reference to other Mega Man series of titles. This decision was motivated by Capcom as a manner of making the game friendlier to users who didn't know very much about the franchise.

HINTS

BN Blaster
To get the BN (Battle Network) Blaster, put any Mega Man Battle Network GBA game into the GBA slot on your DS. Then head to the doghouse in Echo Ridge (in EM Wave form), where you will see a wave ball. Go up to it – someone will say some data has been stolen. If you head to Vista Point and beat Jammer in the computer system and then head back to the wave ball you have found earlier, Mega Man.EXE will take the data you have retrieved and give you the BN Blaster in return.
