Mega Man Star Force 2 is the second game in the Star Force franchise, and a direct successor to Mega Man Star Force. It is known in Japan under the name of Shooting Star Rockman 2, having been confirmed for release in April 2007, with a contest for boss design being held at the time in the country. The title resembles in format Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS, because it was released as a combination of two games: Zerker × Saurian or Berserk × Dinosaur in Japan, and Zerker × Ninja or Berserk × Shinobi in Japan.

Mega Man Star Force 2 is an RPG (Role Playing Game), and is very similar to the first Mega Man Star Force title of the series, because it uses the same isometric viewpoint as its predecessor, with characters consisting of sprites.

The battle mechanic employs a completely 3D environment, as players view the battlefield from behind Mega Man. Although the range of enemies is pretty impressive, players can use a variety of abilities, like shielding or homing attacks, in order to gain the upper hand.

The game uses a system of Battle Cards, which players need to gather and organize in order to be able to use in actual battle. These cards are employed when the custom gauge in the game fills up, and they are called up randomly. There are three types of such items, categorized by their power and availability, namely Standard, Mega, and Giga, and can be sent via the Wi-Fi capability of the game.
