A new game announcement might arrive during December

This year marks the 25-year anniversary of the launch of the Mega Man franchise and, despite high expectations from the fan base, publisher Capcom says that they should not expect to see a new game announced before the end of 2012.

Christian Svensson, who is a senior vice president at Capcom, has told the fan base that, “In December ‘some but not all’ plans for the coming year of celebrations will be shared. There are many moving parts and not everything will be done and final come December. No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check.”

The fans of the Mega Man series have used the opportunity to comment on the lack of information about the franchise coming from Capcom and about the fact that titles like Mega Man Legends 3 and Universe were canceled.

Svensson added, “In the past, we’ve tried to be extremely open about Mega Man. Unfortunately for a variety of reasons (not the fans’ fault, twas ours) that didn’t work out terribly well. Being open about things before we’re absolutely positive of the plans getting executed given the heightened sensitivity about the topic is the order of the day at this point.”

The executive says that he is fighting for Mega Man, although it is not clear what that means for fans.

It seems that Capcom is unwilling to announce a new Mega Man game only to then reveal that it was also canceled and raise the fury level among dedicated players.

Mega Man is one of the most important franchises in Capcom’s catalog and the most recent core game, the tenth, was launched in 2010 and was generally well received by players.

The company has not yet announced a full sequel for it.
