When I write about wearable electronic devices, it's usually in the realm of smartwatches, armbands, augmented reality headsets or fitness trackers. However, more unusual things like solar-powered clothing sometimes crop up.
This happens to be one of those times. If you were to drop by Indiegogo right now, you would find a very interesting backpack in the crowdfunding website's technology section.
The backpack is called AMPL, obviously a play on the word “ample.” Ample opportunity to recharge gadgets that is.
The main feature of this backpack is that it has a large, integrated power accumulator. The secondary feature, though it's just as important as the first, is that each pocket comes with a USB port.
That way, you only need to put your phone, tablet, laptop or whatever else in the bag and their batteries will be recharged even as you walk down a forest trail.
You can use a phone app to activate the charging feature and monitor battery charges for all devices, or to receive other data like internal bag temperature.
The minimum pledge is of $399 / €349, which is $175 / €153 less than the retail price. Shipments will begin in September 2015.
