The new BlackBerry concept is funnier than you would expect

Now that BlackBerry Passport has already reached the hands of some of the Canadian company’s most loyal fans, we can now focus our attention on the next innovative smartphone that BlackBerry plans to unveil next year.

According to BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen, his company plans to launch at least one new BlackBerry concept device each year. Just like the Passport, which features a square display, the next innovative smartphone by BlackBerry could stand out through some other unique feature.

For the time being, details on what the next concept device may look like have not been offered, but Canadian Rick Mercer already knows what the next unique BlackBerry smartphone will be called and what it has to offer.

Meet the BlackBerry Irregular Heptagon, a game changer for the smartphone market. Aside from the fact that it offers “seven times the uneven angles” of a standard handset, the smartphone is also handy as you can hang it on a shower rod, or prop open a window or a door.

The Irregular Heptagon has two physical keyboards, one in the front and the other one in the back. If you did not get it yet, this is just a funny parody following John Chen’s hint to a brand new “unconventional” smartphone that should be unveiled next year in February during Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade fair.

Do you think that after the BlackBerry Curve and the square Blackberry Passport, the Canadian company plans to launch a heptagonal device?

We certainly don’t think so, but we expect BlackBerry to surprise us with an innovative device once again, even if the Passport has been met with mixed reviews from both users and the media.

BlackBerry Victoria may be the company's next unconventional smartphone

In fact, news about the unconventional smartphone that BlackBerry should unveil in Q1 2015 may have already been leaked online. Dubbed BlackBerry Victoria or Visa, the unannounced smartphone may be the one that John Chen was referring to during the Passport’s launch last month.

BlackBerry Victoria features a slider form factor and comes with a physical keyboard that has a retractable cover. A patent that describes the mechanism has been recently renewed by BlackBerry, which is why we believe there’s a high chance that the Victoria will be the next innovative smartphone launched by the Canadian factory.

Until then though, let’s hope the Passport will be popular enough in terms of numbers of units sold to justify the launch of a completely different sequel.
