Apple to make the transition from Android to iOS smoother

During Apple’s WWDC 2015 event, the Cupertino tech giant announced its heavily anticipated Apple Music service, something we were expecting for a while now. What we did not foresee was that Apple Music would turn out to be the company's first app to be made available for Android.

And during the same event, Apple also introduced its second Android app. But if you think Apple is trying to cozy up to Google and weasel itself into the Google Play Store, hold that thought.

That’s because Apple’s second Android app is actually designed to help switch Android users to iOS. It’s called pretty blatantly “Move to iOS” - not a very subtle naming scheme, it seems - and it serves to do just what its name implies.

Apple automates the Android to iOS changeover

Basically, the application will help you transition smoothly from your old Android phone (Apple uses an HTC phone as an example) to a brand new, shiny iPhone. The new software will aid with moving your contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, mail accounts, calendars, wallpaper, and DRM-free songs and books.

On top of that, the service will try to assist you in rebuilding your app library by automatically suggesting you to download the same free apps you had on your older phone. It also makes an App Store wish list where it adds the paid titles.

Once the transition has been completed, the app will go on to suggest users go recycle their Android phone at any Apple Store of their choice.

Apple already offers online guidelines that take users step-by-step through the process of moving all their data from Android to iOS. But with this new Android app, Apple is taking things to the next level, installing itself at the core of the competition.

By automating the transition process, the company is making it even easier for mobile phone enthusiasts to ditch Android and jump on board with its iOS. The application has yet to make an appearance in the Google Play store, but we guess Apple should start offering it soon enough.

While we wait for the tech giant to launch “Move to Android” in Google’s marketplace, you can take a look at the guidelines Apple has made available.
