Meerkat will probably beat Periscope to Android

Live streaming apps Periscope and Meerkat are currently iOS-only affairs, leaving Android users out of the whole broadcasting frenzy that we've been seeing as of late.

But there’s hope for those of us who love to use Android. Not so long ago, Periscope announced that an Android version of its application was set to arrive soon. But interestingly enough, tiny startup Meerkat has managed to get a head start by plunging into the Android ecosystem ahead of Periscope.

This week, Meerkat has announced it is now accepting beta testers for the Android version of the app. So if you want to be among the first users to try out the service and help the company improve the software in time for release, you can easily sign up.

All you need to do is visit this link and type in your name, your Twitter user name and email address. For the time being, we don’t know when the Android application will be released to the masses in all its glory, but if you want to be ahead of all the pack, this is a great opportunity for you.

There has been a lot of buzz around Meerkat’s decision to stick to iOS (for now), but the matter was probably just blown a little out of proportion. The reason for the delay could be that Meerkat has a small team working on the matter. Even so, the startup still managed to leap ahead of Periscope.

A recent report we brought to your attention not so long ago claimed that Twitter was actually trying to remove Meerkat for good from the market.

Various sources have stepped forward to reveal that Twitter representatives have allegedly come forward to assure celebrities that Meerkat is slowly dying and they would be better off using Periscope. But as we can see today, that’s clearly not the case.

Recently, Meerkat scored a huge deal with Madonna, and even if the Queen of Pop’s music video launch on the service didn’t go as planned, things did work out for the best in the end.

And with Meerkat beating Periscope to Android, it seems quite clear why Twitter is so afraid of the startup.
