The MeeGo 1.1 operating system was announced as available a few weeks ago for handsets, offering users of a Nokia N900 the possibility to install it on their devices, and now the MeeGo 1.1 SDK was released, though only in a beta version for the time being.

The new MeeGo v1.1 SDK was meant to offer developers the possibility to start creating mobile applications for the Nokia N900, or for Aava and Netbook devices.

“MeeGo v1.1 SDK Beta release provides a Qt Creator-based development environment for developing, debugging, and running mobile applications on N900, Aava and Netbook devices. An emulator (QEMU) is also provided for developing without target hardware,” the release notes state.

The new software solution was made available only for Ubuntu Lucid (32bit) and Fedora 13 (32bit), though the development team says that they aim at making it compatible with even more desktop OSes, including Windows XP and Windows Vista.

“Experimental versions of tools for these operating systems may already be available, but they are not yet fully tested,” the release notes state.

When it comes to the MeeGo SDK components, we should note the following:

* QtCreator 2.0.1     o qt-tools 4.7.0 * Toolchains    o arm toolchain (cs2009q1 based)    o ia32 toolchain (meego based) * MADDE 0.7.53    o core sysroot (armv7l, ia32) * Emulator    o qemu-gl    o QEMU images       + core (armv7l, ia32)       + handset (armv7l, ia32)       + netbook (ia32)

In case there are some who might not know what MeeGo is all about, we should note that it was born from the merger of Nokia's Maemo platform and Intel's Moblin operating system.

The new mobile operating system was announced in spring, when we also received the first taste of it, but it was made available for handsets too only a few weeks ago.

However, the MeeGo handset image was already made available for download, and it can be easily installed on the Nokia N900 which, via a recent software update, was made capable of dual booting in both Maemo and MeeGo.

The MeeGo v1.1 SDK beta is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link.
