Available in other parts of the world for quite some time now, MeeGo-powered netbooks have started to reach US shores, and one of the first units to use this mobile operating system comes courtesy of Asus and is dubbed the Eee PC X101.

Like most other netbooks developed to run MeeGo, the Eee PC X101 runs on some very basic hardware and at its hearts stands Intel's N435 processor, which is the slowest Atom Pine Trail CPU to be released until now.

The N435 manages to get this “distinction” by coming with a single 1.33GHz core that is seconded by 512KB of L2 cache.

The rest of its features are pretty much standard for a Pine Trail CPU and includes Hyper-Threading support as well as an integrated graphics core that is used to drive the 10.1-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution used in the Eee PC X101.

Taking a look at the remaining specifications, we get to see that the X101 is just as lackluster as the Atom CPU used to power it, as the netbook packs just 1GB of system memory and an petite 8GB solid state drive as well as the standard 802.11n Wi-Fi, low-res webcam, and optional Bluetooth 3.0.

All of these, together with a 3-cell battery, are packed inside a thin chassis that measures no more than 17.6mm at its thickest point and weights just 950g.

In the US, the MeeGo running Eee PC X101 is available for pre-order from Directron for $208.98, which is just a tad higher than the $199 price tag recommended by Asus.

In the not-too-distant future, the Taiwanese company will also release a Windows 7 version of the X101, dubbed the X101H, that will retail for about $350. This will include a larger storage drive. (via Notebook Italia)
