In a market that might soon be dominated by Android devices, being different could easily prove a good thing, and Neofonie’s WeTab slate, which is powered by the MeeGo platform, is one example in this direction.

What we are looking at here is a 11.6-inch tablet PC that runs under MeeGo 1.0, and which sports a user interface greatly optimized for finger usability.

The slate was brought to the floor at IDF 2010, where it was unveiled that its UI comes from 4tiitoo, and that the hardware inside it was put together by Pegatron.

According to some of the latest reports around the Internet, the slate is set to become available for purchase come September 21st, though no info emerged so far on the device's US availability.

A quick look at the tablet PC's hardware specifications reveals a pretty appealing device powered by the new MeeGo platform.

WeTab's 11.6-inch screen boasts a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, while an Intel Atom N450 processor powers the whole machinery.

The specifications list of this device also includes GMA 3150 graphics, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity options.

Two full-size USB ports are also included into the mix, as well as multitasking controls, and interactive scrolling thumbnails, so as to offer easy navigation through files and menus.

Pinch-to-zoom is not present on the device, it seems, though this might not be a deal breaker in the end, since it comes with a pretty large display.

Some more info on WeTab's features and capabilities are available on the video below (via Engadget).

Two WeTab versions should be brought to the market in a couple of days, including one with 16GB of internal memory, and a 32GB-capable model.

At the same time, we should note that the 325GB flavor of the slate is said to come with tri-band radio frequencies support, including one US frequency.

The device should land in Germany on Tuesday, priced at €449 (about $579), for the 16GB model, and at €569 ($732), for the 32GB version.
