The “Back to School” period is almost here, which means that companies will be rushing to update their product portfolios to meet the demand associated with said period. Such is the case with Medion, which is set to unveil a new portable computer system that has been designed to meet the requirements of students, combining a
classic design with some of the latest hardware components, all inside an affordable package. Dubbed Medion Akoya P6620, the new laptop is expected to become available on August 9.
As far as technical specifications go, this 16-inch laptop is pretty basic, combing an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor with 4GB of memory, a solution that should deliver an optimum performance for browsing the Internet, doing office applications and even enjoying some multimedia files. The Medion Akoya P6620 also comes with a large-capacity 320GB hard drive and an integrated DVD optical drive. Packed with a Windows Vista operating system, the machine also ships with a voucher that will enable its users to upgrade to Microsoft's next-generation Windows 7 operating system, when the OS becomes available in October.
On the connectivity side, the P6620 is featured with a combined USB/eSATA port, VGA and HMDI for connecting it to an external display, ExpressCard and a memory card reader. There's also a choice for connecting to both wired and wireless networks, pretty much everything you'd expect from such a laptop.
To sweeten the offer, Medion has also included a rather decent bundle, which will provide users with a good selection of applications, including Microsoft Works, Corel Wordperfect Office, Coreldraw, Painter and Nero software for disc burning. There's also a bundled external mouse, which should provide users with a better way to interact with the system's overall features.
Price wise, the laptop is expected to become available later this week at Aldi Stores, for about £500 (US$842).
