One of the major down-points of the machine is its bulky weight

Back in December, we presented you the Medion Akoya P2212T 2-in-1 convertible, telling you it might be a suitable ASUS Transformer Book T100 replacement, in case going with ASUS doesn't appeal for you.

And now there’s another strong reason why you need to consider the option, as the Medion Akoya P2212T has received a CPU and RAM makeover.

Last year the model contained an Intel Celeron N2910 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz (Bay Trail M) combined with 2GB of RAM. But an upgraded model, made available this March, now bundles a faster CPU (Intel Celeron N2920) fitted with 4GB of RAM (via UMPCPortal).

The Medion Akoya also packs 64GB SSD, microSD card slot, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, micro HDMI out, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. The keyboard dock provides an extra battery and a useful 500GB HHD. The battery is said to be able to sustain life on the tablet for up to 10 hours of intense use (read browsing, streaming and Office Work).

The original Akoya model features an 11-inch IPS panel with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Anyway, compare that to the 10.1-inch HD IPS touch sensitive display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixel offered by the ASUS Transformer Book T100 and you might start liking the Medion better.

With the ASUS model, power comes from a 1.33GHz Atom Bay Trail-T Z3740 quad-core processor combined with 2GB of RAM and Intel HD graphics.

Bear in mind, different variants of the Medion Akoya P2212T have been spotted with different retailers in Europe, so before purchasing carefully double-check the specifications, to make sure you’re getting the 4GB with improved CPU alternative.

What might be a little disappointing about the Medion offering is the weight. The tablet is 830 g / 1.82 lbs which might sound a little bit heavier than what most customers are willing to carry around. Snap the keyboard dock and you got yourself quite a beast at 1.7 kg / 3.75 pounds.

This is 300 g / 0.66 lbs than the Dell Venue 11 Pro, which offers a lot of the functionalities the Medion does, only at a larger price.

A major drawing point for the Medion is the super affordable price tag, as the machine will ship for €399 / $550. However, some customers might find they have a problem with the pretty hefty weight of the device, but if that doesn’t constitute a draw-back for you, be sure to give the Medion Akoya P2212T a chance.
