Supports NetVX video encoders

Mediaroom is continually increasing its audience, Microsoft informed, revealing that its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and multimedia software platform are now offering content on in excess of two million TVs worldwide. Microsoft Mediaroom is not only increasing its audience, but also the number of members in the Interoperability and Qualification Lab program. In fact, the latest company to qualify for the program is Harris with the Harris NetVX range of H.264/MPEG-4 standard-definition (SD) video networking encoders.

"Harris Corporation's investment in interoperability testing extends across the entire broadcast community and into the growing IPTV space, enabling our products and technologies to be reliable and efficient for virtually any application requiring the delivery of high-quality video," explained Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications.

The Microsoft Mediaroom Interoperability and Qualification Lab program requires partners to pass a conformance test with the IPTV and multimedia software platform. Via NetVX, Harris promises not only to enable providers deliver high-quality connected TV services but also to cut their costs in the process. "We are pleased to announce compliance of our NetVX encoding products for Microsoft Mediaroom and Microsoft recognition of our commitment to provide interoperable solutions for the IPTV market," Thorsteinson added.

According to statistics provided by Microsoft, Mediaroom has over 1 million subscribers at of the first quarter of this year. This, while delivering connected TV services to over 2 million TV sets. The Redmond company informed that in the first 18 months since the launch, Mediaroom was serving no less than 1 million TVs. In the next five months, the number of TV sets doubled.

"The Harris NetVX SD video encoding solution gives our service provider customers another way to help reduce costs and improve the overall performance of their Microsoft Mediaroom-based TV services.
