Although released on April Fools’ Day, the update for Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPCHC) was no joke. Version 1.61 of the application brings to the table support for new codecs as well as numerous fixes for problems signaled by users.

The new revision uses FFMpeg for RealVideo/RealAudio decoding, includes support for codecs such as SIPR and VP30/31, WMV3 DXVA and ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec), Matroska (with support for QDesign Music, Sorenson and Cinepak video). On the same note, the new version can handle decoding of FLV, SWF and ADPCM.

Also new is the possibility to assign shortcut keys for toggling custom channel mapping on/off and normalization and regain volume on/off. Furthermore, some OSD messages have been added when resetting the playback rate and changing the zoom level.
