Last year, in February, a meteor crashed in Russia's Chelyabinsk region. Some time later, a fragment of the space rock was recovered from the bottom of a lake.

According to Daily Mail, gold medalists at the Sochi Olympics will get to take home bits and pieces of the giant meteor chunk recovered from the bottom of Lake Chebarkul.

These bits and pieces of space rock will be presented to them in the form of commemorative medals in which the meteor fragments are embedded, the same source details.

By the looks of it, the commemorative medals containing a small part of the Chelyabinsk meteor will be offered to the sportswomen and sportsmen who win finals on February 15.

This is because this day marks the first anniversary of the date when the space rock hit Russia.

The commemorative medals are the work of specialists at a workshop in Zlatoust, in the Chelyabinsk region, and the meteor fragment will sit at their center.
