Danger Close wants to focus on making a great shooter, not on insulting rivals

Danger Close, the studio owned by Electronic Arts in charge of the upcoming Medal of Honor: Warfighter, has revealed that it doesn’t want to compare its new title with the future Call of Duty game, saying that the team is focused just on what it’s doing, not on the competition.

Electronic Arts has been trying to steal marketshare from Activision’s Call of Duty series with its own various shooters, from 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot, to last year’s Battlefield 3 and continuing this year with Warfighter.

This rivalry resulted in some harsh words exchanged by EA and Activision last year, when Battlefield 3 was taking on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

This year, with Medal of Honor: Warfighter being set to take on a presumed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, this rivalry won’t be fueled by other statements, at least according to Warfighter’s Executive Producer Greg Goodrich.

"I think that because of our genre and the history of our franchise... it's just a natural thing to want to go out and pick a fight,” he told GameMaster magazine about the argument between EA and Activision.

"[But] if you look at it, almost none of it came from the development team. EA is a very big organization, and there are a lot of grown-ups and adults that manage things that our out of our control."

Goodrich is certain that, at least from his team at Danger Close, no other inflammatory statements will arrive, as they’re focused just on making Warfighter a great first person shooter experience.

The EA executive does admit that other people might start comparing Warfighter with the next Call of Duty, highlighting that, “I'm sure that comparisons will be made and things will be said, but not from here."

Medal of Honor: Warfighter is out in October, while a new Call of Duty game is expected to arrive sometime at the beginning of November.
