Medal of Honor, the first person shooter developed by Danger Close and DICE and published by Electronic Arts, has managed to take the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart in its first week on sale despite some pretty unflattering review scores.

The reboot for the franchise takes players to the modern battlefield of Afghanistan and roughly follows the events of Operation Anaconda, one of the most interesting engagements of the war, with the player using a variety of points of view to get a clear perspective on the conflict.

Second place in the chart went to FIFA 11, the football simulation titles from EA Sports, which managed to stay at number one for three weeks and will now wait for an occasion to jump one place.

The third podium position went to Just Dance 2 from publisher Ubisoft, a dancing title aimed at the casual crowd which combines pop hits with easy to pick up game mechanics.

Wii Party from Nintendo has seen a significant increase in sales, jumping from the last place in the top ten to fourth spot as buyers become interested in picking up games that they can give away for Christmas. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 from Konami has not managed to hold on to the second spot that it had captured last week and is now in fifth place, with FIFA continuing to win the battle of the football simulations.

F1 2010 from Codemasters is in sixth spot, showing that a half decent racing game that simulates the top racing franchise can last in the charts while Dead Rising 2 is in seventh place, down four from third.

Halo: Reach, the first person shooter from Microsoft, translates its science fiction appeal into lasting power, coming in at number eight, down three from five.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 from Namco Bandai debuts at number nine in the chart while Castlevania: Lords of Shadow closes down the chart, down from six.
