Electronic Arts has announced that it is bringing back its long running Medal of Honor first person shooter franchise in 2010 and that it is also moving it out of the World War II time frame for the first time. The new videogame, which seems only to be named Medal of Honor, with no subtitle, will be set in modern day Afghanistan and should tell the story of so-called Tier 1 Operators, special forces assets operating directly under the supervision of the National Command Authority.

The company has been keen on pointing out that it has been collaborating with a variety of people who are working in the Special Operation community of the United States military since it has decided to create the new Medal of Honor.

The Afghanistan setting will support both a single player and a multiplayer element and Medal of Honor will draw on the experience of two highly rated development studios in order to create a very good game experience. The single player campaign will be handled by Electronic Arts Los Angeles, while the multiplayer element is set to be developed by DICE, the EA studio that has the greatest experience in designing online competitive battles.

Greg Goodrich, who is an executive producer on the new Medal of Honor, says that “When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war. We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

The new Medal of Honor will probably arrive in late 2010 and if the single player campaign is well developed and realistic and the DICE made multiplayer can rival that of Modern Warfare 2, Electronic Arts will have a hit on its hands.
