The executive producer working on the upcoming first person shooter Medal of Honor has revealed that the video game will need to sell more than three million units when it goes on sales in October in order for the team to be able to create a sequel for the experience.

The statement was made in an article in the New York Times that explores how modern video games are able to reflect the realities of war, using Call of Duty: Black Ops and Medal of Honor as the most important examples.

Greg Goodrich, who is the executive producer at Electronic Arts working on Medal of Honor, stated that the game has a sales target and unless it is reached he was “not going to be able to do another one.”

He also revealed that the game was initially set to have a subtitles, Anaconda, but it was dropped in order to make the new game a fresh start for the series, which has competed with Call of Duty for a long time before going on hiatus.

The single player of Medal of Honor will take place during the still racing Afghanistan war, with the player taking on the role of a Tier 1 Operator, the warriors that are called upon to deal with the toughest and most secret operations.

The multiplayer of the video game has came under attack for allowing gamers to take on the role of the Taliban and actually kill American soldiers.

Development of the single player is handled by EA Los Angeles while multiplayer is under the guiding hand of DICE.

Medal of Honor is set to be released on October 12 in North America and on October 15 for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the PC and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The game faces touch competition from Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is set to arrive in early November.
