Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that well known former Special Air Service military man Chris Ryan will be creating a novel that will act as a prequel to its shooter Medal of Honor to be released at an unspecified date later in the year.

It seems that those who pre order the new shooter from HMV will be getting the novel as part of the package.

What exactly the narrative of the book will focus on has not been detailed by the novelist of by the video game publisher.

Chris Ryan has stated, “It is a real privilege to be involved in a game with such a heritage as Medal of Honor. Combining my experience as an SAS soldier in the Gulf War with missions from the videogame itself enabled me to create an authentic and respectful account of an elite soldier fighting in Afghanistan for Medal of Honor: The Book.”

He added, “Bringing together the disciplines of literature and videogames has been a new but compelling experience for me as a writer, resulting in what is hopefully an engaging read for fans of videogames and novels alike.”

The new Medal of Honor is part of Electronic Arts' attempt to take back the crown of first person shooting from its rival publisher Activision.

The game will be set in modern day Afghanistan and will tell the story of the actions of the super secretive Tier 1 Operators, the man that undertake the most dangerous missions of the fight against terrorism.

Medal of Honor will have a single player element that will be created by EALA while the multiplayer component is handled by DICE and was pretty engaging when I got my hands on it at Gamescom.

Chris Ryan is known for the non fiction book “The One That Got Away”, which detailed his experiences in the First Gulf War, and for his television programs linked to special forces and their actions.
