Mechwarrior Online, the free-to-play first-person shooter featuring giant robots from Piranha Games, will feature a new prestige item, namely a set of gold-plated mechs.

Eight models of the gold-plated mechs have been put on sale as of now, each of them weighing in at a massive $500 / €364.

This feature is part of the Clan Collection, a set of mechs scheduled to release in June 2014. The new mechs are actually variations of other existing mech designs, as PCGamesN informs.

The new mechs are named Warhawk, Timberwolf, Adder, Dire Wold, Nova, Summoner, Stormcrow and Kit Fox, and are offered in a variety of packs including different bundles of mechs, ranging from $30 / €22 to $240 / €175.

The cheaper ones will, of course, include the least popular mechs, with the most expensive pack including every clan mech and variants.

The gold-plated robots are sold separately, and Piranha also offers a new unique bonus module to go with the mech skin. No word on the mods has transpired yet, but poorer players all around the world surely hope it's not going to be something too powerful.

The response from the Mechwarrior Online community has been not quite stellar, especially considering that nothing has been announced about the new content players were promised and are eagerly awaiting.
