Much of the success is a result of the connection between developers and fans

MechWarrior Online might still be in beta stage but the robot combat title has managed to pass the 1 million milestone when it comes to registered players, according to publisher IGP.

The figure takes into account the number of players who have downloaded the client and have since then played the mech game at least one time.

Kelly Zmak, the president of the publisher, tells Gamasutra that much of the success of the game is linked to the close connection between the player community and the team at developer Piranha.

He states, “You have to have the mindset that the game is first, the developer is second, and the publishing function - although critical to making all those things work - is not the profile role.”

Players care about game quality and IGP plans to give Piranha the freedom and the resources required to take MechWarrior Online out of beta stage.
