After spending almost a year in open beta, MechWarrior Online has been officially released worldwide and, in order to celebrate this feat, developer Piranha Games is organizing a special in-game event and has even posted a gameplay video with the multiplayer title.

The MechWarrior franchise impressed lots of fans back in the 1990s, and Piranha Games decided to bring the series back as an online free-to-play shooter that allowed players to once again control the imposing mechs and fight it out on huge battlefields.

The result was MechWarrior Online, which entered open beta back in October 2012.

Now, after quite a few updates and plenty of feedback from fans, Piranha Games rolled out the full version of MechWarrior Online as a free-to-play title.

Besides releasing a special launch trailer, which you can admire above, a special in-game event called Operation 24 is also underway, challenging players to complete 24 matches before October 1 and awarding them with an exclusive cockpit item.
