Developer Piranha Bytes has released the system requirements for those interested in playing their upcoming MechWarrior Online, showing a set of specifications that allow even players with older systems to join in online mech-based battles.

The minimum system specifications are:

Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz or Athlon II X2 245e processor GeForce 8800GT or Radeon HD 5600/5700 graphics card 4 GB of RAM for the core memory Windows Vista 32 bit operating system 4 GB of free hard drive space DirectX 9.0

Those who want to get the full experience out of the game will need some heftier hardware, including:

Core i3-2500 or AMD Athlon II X4 650 processor or better GeForce GTX 285 or Radeon HD 5830 powered graphics card 8 GB of RAM memory Windows 7 SP-1 64 bit operating system 4 GB of hard drive space DirectX 9.0

Russ Bullock, who is the president of Piranha Bytes, stated, “Right now a duo core system is our minimum spec machine but it is also our main focus of concern.”

He added, “It is playable on those specifications and I have tested it myself it is currently very much a minimum spec type of experience running on low-detail settings. It’s obvious that a Quad core system is the key as even the earliest Core 2 Quad systems run the game very well and it is our goal (since there are still so many out there), to optimize the Core 2 Duo systems to run much faster.”

MechWarrior Online will use the free-to-play model and will allow gamers to join either a Great House or a mercenary company in order to battle the Clans which are set to invade the game universe.

The development team promises that all fans of older MechWarrior titles will be able to enjoy the MMO and that many of the mechanics will be instantly familiar.
