The developers at Piranha Games have released the first trailer for their upcoming MechWarrior Online, the video game based on the BattleTech franchise that the team is currently developing for the PC.

The trailer is designed to pique the interest of the already existing player base as it shows the familiar process of an Atlas, maybe the best known mech of the franchise, dropping from a dropship onto a battleground ready for a fight.

The game will allow players to create a pilot identity and then align themselves with one of the Great Houses of the game universe or create their own mercenary company and go around planets looking for work.

Piranha Games managed to get the BattleTech license back from Microsoft after the publisher failed to announce any new video games based on it.

Other developers, like Day 1, are also working on a new mech-based game that could be launched during 2012.
