The developers at Adhesive Games have announced that they are planning to launch Hawken , their indie developed mech simulation, on December 12 of this year, using a free-to-play business model.

The developer has created a new entity, called Meteor Games, which is set to handle the publishing duties for the new game, although it is not clear whether the two companies plan to deliver a retail package for it or will only offer Hawken via digital means.

The game will be entirely free-to-play to those interested and items like weapons, armor and defense systems will be sold using a micro-transaction model to all those who want to get more out of the game and are willing to pay.

No actual prices have been mentioned and the developers at Adhesive Games have not said how they plan to make sure that the sold equipment does not allow some players to regularly beat their non-paying brethren in Player versus Player engagements.

Hawken will be set on an overtly industrialized planet with a collapsed economy, where mechs battle each other in a fight for resources.

The developers are planning to deliver four core game modes on launch, oriented towards both free-for-all and team matches, and the team has also expressed a desire to add something similar to the Horde mode from Gears of War 3.

The number of maps available for launch has not yet been decided, but Hawken is expected to get copious amounts of post-launch content via DLC packages.

Hawken will be played from a first-person perspective and gamers will be able to choose from three types of mechs and then customize their load-out and their abilities regarding individual play styles.

At the moment the developers at Adhesive Games allow interested players to use the official website to sign up for a closed beta.
