Following the global unveiling of the McLaren 50S Coupé and 650S Spider at the 84th International Geneva Motor Show, McLaren is treating its customers with a customization app dedicated for tablets, dubbed the McLaren 650S Design Studio.

The app is compatible with the iOS and Android platforms and is available in both official stores (Apple App Store and Google Play). The new software will tap into the imagination of creative drivers who want to create the car of their dreams. The app has specifically been designed to help perspective McLaren 650S Spider owners get exactly what they want.

The app allows users to create a fully-fledged composition. One will not only be allowed to choose from official paint, wheel and exterior carbon options, but also be given the opportunity to choose a desired background image, that helps put the creation in context.

Options include the bright lights of Times Square in New York at night, Monaco’s famous marina, Shanghai’s city center at dusk or other push locations like that. Once the car is placed into the desired environment, the app will automatically adjust lighting and reflections rendering a truly realistic image.

After users have fully explored the options and are happy with the final look, they can proceed to sharing the images across McLaren Automative’s social channels using the hash-tag #mymclaren.

Of course it makes sense to use the app if you’re going to be buying the car, and rumor has it the McLaren 650S Spider will be priced around €232,500 / $318,000 with 19.6% VAT included. Given this VAT is larger than the taxes one has to pay in America, the car will probably sell at a cheaper rate in the US.
